I get your fear of rejection, but you need to put things into perspective; you’re looking for signs from chat timing with someone who’s treating this for exactly what it is; a person he occasionally chats with who doesn’t engage with him in person.
Outside of the fact that he might not be attached to his phone, you’re also not a priority of his. I’m not suggesting you have that expectation. I’m honestly confident that you don’t at all.
