  1. The fact that you're 19 and have reached this level of realization about your family, and how you act in relationships is SO GOOD. And I really want to acknowledge that, because I know you're struggling but the first step is that you are seeing these thought patterns and behaviors and it takes a lot of people A LONG TIME to see these things in themselves, especially when the people around them are enablers. So be gentle with yourself, this is a lot to change, and it's not easy.

I'm gonna suggest something a little weird? But – do you read much? You might think about picking up romance novels. There are just a ton of fantastic novels out there about people in relationships with different kinds of conflict and how they resolve them – and often modeling different ways of handling relationship conflict, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but it can help you see patterns over time that are very common in relationship conflicts.

Also – reading can has been shown to help with empathy and also learning from the experiences you share through the novel. You can also do audio books, I love them for while i'm walking or doing dishes or driving. (Some great authors I like, Loretta Chase (historical) Ilona Andrews (The Hidden Legacy series, cool modern fantasy) Molly Harper, just has a ton of great stuff, Lauren Blakely – if you prefer a modern rom com, very sexy.)

But keep doing what you're doing, be honest about what's happening. Maybe you can start to notice what the emotions you feel BEFORE you pick a fight feel like, is it moodiness, is it boredom, are you hungry? What's leading to that behavior? It may be different things, but try to step outside yourself and think about how you're feeling.

Another weird suggestion – if you're in a pretty good mental place and are open to it, is to try mushrooms? they can be a great way to help with this kind of perspective and mental progress. It usually takes me 6 months to see the changes from my trip – but every time my life has taken a positive change.

Also – about being wrong – one of my high school english teachers taught us that “Intelligent people reflect and learn from their mistakes.” You're doing an amazing job of that here, and that's something to keep in mind in arguments too – you're smart, you understand that when you're wrong it's time to adjust your behavior – so trying to keep that in mind when you're having discussions and not let your emotions take over.

  2. I'm fine with raising kids in a city-apartment

Most people would not be ok with this, especially when it's feasible to buy a house.

You want screaming babies and thunderfooted toddlers running through your little apartment, making all of your neighbors miserable? You want your kids to never have a yard? If your goal is to have kids, then yeah it does sound like you're slacking. Some people won't have the chance to buy a home to raise kids in, so no shade to them, but if you can and you just aren't… Idk

I'm all for working less, but if that won't support life goals then it kind of sucks. You're just going to look like an underachiever to other potential partners.
