You know what? I bet most people who lose their mother at 16 would rather have their mother than money. I am tearing up thinking about how absolutely disgusting it is that this poor woman has a best friend who is so devoid of humanity that he's jealous she lost her mom as a child because he thinks having to work for a living is worse. And she doesn't even know- she thinks she can trust you and that you care about her, and she doesn't know what kind of person you really are. In terms of how you deal with this…I don't know. I can't fathom how a human brain that thinks this way works. Maybe find a rock to slither under and let her find better friends?
The idea that I’ve been abusive in any way is a tough pill to swallow and not something I want to hear. Obviously going to get a bit defensive. Going forward I’m going to do everything in my power to literally whisper during arguments. I still don’t think her comment was in any way warranted and do believe she’s doing it to manipulate and control the argument but if I remain zen during all interactions I will not give her the ability to use my emotions against me no matter how much she intentionally tries to purposely upset me.

OP, would you say that your boyfriend is suddenly acting out of character? Because this sounds like it could potentially be some kind of psychiatric disorder. If past experience has shown him to be rational and logical, and suddenly he’s acting like a lunatic… something is probably not right. He needs a psych eval and maybe even a brain scan to check for tumors. I think this goes beyond just a simple jackass move on his part.

I WISH I could make the changes you have!!! If my partner did I would like to think I'd be super supportive of all of their new hobbies and interests. He either needs to respect and support your very positive changes or get out of the way.
