The impulse for a lot of people after getting out of a five year relationship would be to have a few meaningless flings. But you really crossed a rubicon when you called his other chat mate “ugly”. It's just a sign of gross insecurity and meanness that probably changed the way he views you. He's not ready for a relationship yet, but he does know that when he is you won't be the one he wants to have it with. Words have consequences and that was just a really low thing to say.
OP, I can't see this working for you. If after four months she said so clearly that expects your to make more money and potentially change your career to do so, this will come up repeatedly.
